Fields & Futures Welcomes Cal Ripken, Jr. To Oklahoma City

Oct 4, 2016

Cal Ripken, Jr., known as baseball’s all-time Iron Man, retired from baseball in 2001 after a hall of fame career that spanned 21 seasons, all with the Baltimore Orioles. Best known for his streak of 2,632 consecutive games played, Ripken’s name has become synonymous with strength, character, perseverance and integrity. Today, he uses that experience to build the game from the grassroots level, both on and off the field. On December 15, Ripken will make a special appearance in Oklahoma City to speak at the 3rd Annual Fields & Futures Bowtie Ball, a night to celebrate, honor and thank the coaches who make the world a better place – one athlete at a time.

Says Fields & Futures founder Tim McLaughlin, “We look forward to this event each year because it gives us an opportunity to publicly thank and recognize coaches for their hard work, sacrifice and service to others. We are thrilled Cal can join us.” Added McLaughlin, “In 2001, Cal and his brother founded the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation in memory of their father. When you look at the work of that foundation to help at-risk youth in distressed communities across America through sports-themed programs, and then look at the mission of Fields & Futures, there is an obvious shared belief that sports can be a powerful motivator to help put kids on a better path to graduation, and life. Our Fields & Futures supporters attending this year’s Bowtie Ball are sure to enjoy Cal’s message.”

The Fields & Futures Bowtie Ball is presented by SandRidge Energy, Mercy and TotallyTickets.com. Other sponsors include Bob Bartley Electric, Inasmuch Foundation and Kickapoo Casino – Harrah & Shawnee. For sponsorship or table information, please email [email protected].

Hope in Action at the 2024 Kansas Relays

Thanks to the Simon Greiner Program, eight talented student-athletes and four coaches from John Marshall's 2023 5A state champion sprint relay teams were given a life-changing opportunity to compete on a national stage at one of the oldest and most prestigious track meets in the country, the 2024 Kansas Relays. The trip was more than just a reward for their accomplishments; it was a vivid demonstration of "Hope in Action."

Beyond 500: Coach Patrick Cudjoe Teaches Winning On and Off the Court

John Marshall boys basketball coach Patrick Cudjoe recently eclipsed 500 career wins, a milestone only a dozen other active coaches have reached. With deep roots in Oklahoma City Public Schools as a student, athlete, educator, coach, and parent, his impact on the OKCPS community continues to extend far beyond the court.
