Fields & Futures Receives $30,000 Grant from Oklahoma City Community Foundation

Oct 16, 2014

Fields & Futures is pleased to announce it has received a $30,000 grant from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation and the Parks & Public Spaces Initiative. The grant will be used to help design and build a walking trail at Webster Middle School, to be enjoyed by the Webster community for many years to come.

Fields & Futures, in partnership with Oklahoma City Public Schools Athletics and other partner organizations, rebuilt all athletic fields at Webster Middle School in 2013 as part of their mission to IGNITE SUCCESS – one field, one coach, one student at a time. This walking trail will add an important element to the overall transformation of the Webster Middle School sports complex.

“We are grateful for this grant and the opportunity it presents for the Webster Middle School community. We greatly appreciate the support of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation,” says Fields & Futures founder, Tim McLaughlin.

Fields & Futures is a registered 501(c)3 founded in 2012 by Liz and Tim McLaughlin, to serve Oklahoma City Public Schools Athletics in their mission to rebuild 44 athletic fields, provide professional development for 265 coaches, and initiate a student mentoring program – all in an effort to grow student participation in sports, giving more kids the opportunity to benefit from that experience and to help strengthen neighborhoods and communities across the district. Says Keith Sinor, Athletic Director for Oklahoma City Public Schools, “With the help of Fields & Futures and their partner organizations, we are helping write a better story for the thousands of students served by Oklahoma City Public Schools. Their work is making a material difference in the lives of our students and their communities.”

Founded in 1969, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 public charity that works with donors to create charitable funds that will benefit the community both now and in the future. For more information, visit OCCF.org.

Daryen “DJ” Jefferson: In a Lane of His Own

Daryen "DJ" Jefferson isn't just another student-athlete at Douglass High School – he's wired a little bit differently. The high school valedictorian discovered his passion for long-distance running when he was 10 years old and hasn't looked back. As he prepares for the next chapter of his journey – college athletics – he's just hitting his stride and in a lane of his own.
